At BRISMES conference 2015, a motion was passed that committed BRISMES ‘to organising discussions at the BRISMES Annual Conference or other appropriate fora and provide a platform for debating BDS.’ It is within this context that the participants above present this roundtable discussion, open to all participants at the BRISMES 2017 conference, on the subject of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement and its implications for Middle East studies. The roundtable aims to create an atmosphere free from intimidation and censorship where BRISMES participants can explore, debate and discuss the academic boycott of Israel and other aspects of BDS for scholars of the Middle East region. Each roundtable participant will present their own reflections on the issue before opening the discussion out to the audience.
