Call for Abstracts

MESNET invites applications from PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows in the field of Middle Eastern Studies to participate in an Early Career Researchers’ Workshop on 26-27 July 2017 at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter. The workshop combines a PGR conference and career development talks and is jointly organised by the IAIS and BRISMES, with funding from the British Academy. The PGR conference theme is: Subversion and Dissent. We invite papers that explore dissent from dominant discourses of identity, nation, modernity, gender, religion, liberation, citizenship and selfhood in the Middle East, and attempts to subvert established forms and structures of power, authority and hierarchy in the region. We are interested in radical politics, popular movements, alternative exegeses, guerrilla narratives, cultural rebellion – in other words, dissenting voices of any kind.
