Ambassador of Sweden to Egypt

Charlotta Sparre is the Ambassador of Sweden to Egypt since September 2013. She has previously served as Ambassador of Sweden to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan (2008-2013), Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to European Union, responsible for EU relations with the Middle East and North Africa (2003-2008); and as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo, Egypt (1999-2003).

Prior to that she held different positions in the Swedish Foreign Ministry (1994-1999 and 1986 -1988), mainly working on issues related to the Middle East and North Africa, including the Middle East Peace Process, the Barcelona Process and the setting up of the Swedish Institute in Alexandria.

Charlotta Sparre lived in Beijing, China (1993-94), in Gaborone, Botswana (1992-93) and in Tripoli, Libya (1988-1992), for studies, work and family reasons.

During the last fifteen years Charlotta Sparre has been an active participant in several track II and academic meetings on the Middle East, with a special focus on regional security issues and democratic development.
