Nominees for 2022 Elections

Marianne Dhenin

Marianne Dhenin

Marianne Dhenin is a Ph.D. candidate in Near and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Basel, a researcher in the Leibniz Cooperation Project ‘The Historicity of Democracy in the Arab and Muslim Worlds’, and a member of the academic staff at the Leibniz Institute of European History. Her dissertation explores how disease and public health shaped the social and spatial order of late 19th- and early 20th-century Egyptian cities.

I'm driven to volunteer for the BRISMES Committee on Academic Freedom out of inspiration from my colleagues' previous work on the committee and a passion for ensuring scholars' rights to pursue their research. It would be an honor to offer my skills and expertise on issues of academic freedom in Egypt, the United States, and Germany toward expanding the committee's capacity to monitor and respond to violations. I also look forward to strengthening collegial connections through committee work.
