Islam and Constitutions. The Law and Politics of Sharia Provisions - Online Course

Why all the hype about Islam when drafting a constitution? Why are constitutions so central, to begin with? And what is the politics around references to Islam in them? What are, in particular, the sharia provisions, and how do they work? This online course introduces participants to the conceptual foundations of constitutional law, the articulations of State-Islam relations in contemporary constitutions, and the various models of sharia provisions in a comparative perspective. Sharia provisions, in particular, are considered both in terms of their wording and the overall design.

Abu Dhabi International Book Fair
Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) is taking place from 23-29 May 2021 with a combination of both physical and online events. The hybrid programme for the 30th edition of the fair includes a stellar cast of international speakers, as well as showcasing a rafte of inspirational writers from the Arab world. This Kuwait Programme event will present the findings from two research projects - 'Public Space in Kuwait: From User Behaviour to Policy-making' and 'Towards an Equitable Transport System in Kuwait'. Kuwait's population is expanding rapidly and accommodating this growth through sustainable urban development will be a challenge for the small emirate. This webinar will explore how Kuwait's urbanisation trends and car-centric development have shaped planning, urban design, and individual behaviour with consequences for public health and the environment.
