Jood W. Alharthi

Jood W. Alharthi is an experienced practitioner in peacebuilding and international law, whose doctoral research focuses on innovating approaches to peacebuilding and peace processes in the MENA region, particularly Sudan. Most recently, Jood worked as a Political Affairs Officer in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General. Previously, she worked in the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, where she was part of the Policy and Mediation Division. Prior to this, she worked with the UN Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund, managing peacebuilding projects in MENA and Asia. Jood sits on the advisory board of the VOX-Pol Institution, shaping responses to online extremism. Her experience includes managing civil society networks, planning advocacy campaigns, contributing to policy-making, creating new partnerships, and designing peacebuilding projects.

Her research on peacemaking in Sudan - a crisis often marginalised in academic and policy discourse - has highlighted the role that researchers play in fostering communities capable of influencing change. This includes challenging dominant narratives, organising events, webinars, and conferences, coordinating calls for papers, and more. This is the energy and approach she is keen to bring to BRISMES.

At a time when conflict is rising in the MENA region and the academic community faces significant budget cuts, a role on the BRISMES council offers an opportunity to ensure that important spaces are not diminished. Through the initiatives it organises, the voices it platforms, and the intellectual momentum it builds, BRISMES can be an influential force. The need for this community feels greater now than ever, and she would be honoured to contribute her expertise, time, and dedication to it.
