Our Governance
How BRISMES is Governed
BRISMES is a charitable company limited by guarantee registered with Companies House and the Charity Commission for England and Wales. It is run by a Council whose members are Trustees of the charity and Directors of the company. The Council is made up of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Council Members elected or co-opted from among the membership for a period of three years. The charitable aims of BRISMES are to encourage and promote interest and study of the Middle Eastern cultural region from the end of classical antiquity to the present day in particular but not exclusively through the dissemination of information and by the encouragement of co-operation amongst persons concerned with the scholarly study of the region.
BRISMES Policies
This Code of Conduct underpins our commitment to develop an inclusive community dedicated to open scholarly exchange and the dissemination of knowledge in Middle East Studies.
This policy sets out the guidance for land and territorial acknowledgement for individuals participating in the annual BRISMES conference.
This policy sets out the mandatory requirements for land and territorial acknowledgement for all individuals submitting to the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies (BJMES).
In line with BRISMES’s commitment to human rights, anti-racism, and decolonial scholarship, submissions and participation in BRISMES activities are subject to the ethical standards outlined in this policy.
This Privacy Policy applies to information the British Society for Middle Eastern Studies collects about individuals who interact with our organisation.
This policy applies to all trustees and staff of BRISMES as well as to any individuals claiming expenses relating to BRISMES activities such as keynote speakers for the annual conference etc.
