New Members of Editorial Team Appointed to the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies

BRISMES is delighted to announce the appointment of Ibrahim Halawi and Sophie Richter-Devroe as the new Editors of the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies (BJMES), alongside the appointment of Sabiha Allouche, Sara Farhan, and Yousif Qasmiyeh  as Associate Editors.

The new members of the editorial team bring together a wide range of expertise and perspectives in our field. Their appointment marks an exciting new chapter for BJMES as the journal continues to provide a vital forum for cutting-edge inter-disciplinary scholarship in the field of Middle Eastern studies, bringing a range of scholarly voices and perspectives to publication.

Ibrahim Halawi (Associate Professor in International Politics, Royal Holloway, University of London) and Sophie Richter-Devroe (Honorary Associate Professor, University of Exeter) bring extensive research and editorial experience, as well as a shared commitment to developing BJMES as a leading journal in the field of Middle Eastern studies. Reflecting on the troubled history and politics of knowledge production on the Middle East, the editors aim to create with BJMES a generative scholarly space that is anchored in the region and sensitive to the diverse lived experiences, ways of being, knowing and theorizing of its people.

The existing editorial board will be joined by three new Associate Editors: Sabiha Allouche (Senior Lecturer in Middle East Politics, University of Exeter), Sara Farhan (Associate Professor, University of Northern British Columbia and Visiting Academic Fellow University of Oxford), and Yousif Qasmiyeh (Academic Visitor, University of Oxford). Their combined expertise will further broaden the journal’s editorial scope and strengthen its engagement with diverse fields, approaches and perspectives across Middle Eastern studies.

We would also like to express our thanks to the outgoing Editor Lloyd Ridgeon and outgoing Associate Editors Ersun Kurtulus and Zahia Smail Salhi for their considerable contribution to the journal over many years, which has ensured its continued success.

We look forward to working with Ibrahim, Sophie, Sabiha, Sara and Yousif and to seeing BJMES continue to flourish under their leadership.
