BRISMES Graduate Section Event | Grant Writing and Pathways to Funding Research
BRISMES Graduate Section Event | Grant Writing and Pathways to Funding Research
Date: Thursday 14 May 2026
Time: 13.00-14.30 (UK Time)
Location: Zoom
Securing research funding is an essential part of academic life, but identifying suitable opportunities and developing strong grant applications can be especially challenging for graduate students and early career researchers.
This online event, organised by the BRISMES Graduate Section, will bring together Yafa Shanneik, Matteo Legrenzi, Jeroen Gunning, and Shabnam Holliday to share their experiences of applying for and securing research funding. Speakers will offer practical insights into identifying funding opportunities, framing research proposals, writing competitive applications, and navigating the wider funding landscape in Middle East Studies.
Each speaker will give a short presentation reflecting on their own experience with grant writing and funding applications, including lessons learned from the process. This will be followed by an extended Q&A and open discussion, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions about funding pathways, application strategies, and research development.
The event is particularly intended for graduate students and early career researchers working in Middle East Studies, though it is open to all members of the BRISMES community with an interest in research funding and grant writing.
